We were leaving his summer camp and Aidan stopped, looked back behind him, and ran over to pick something up off the ground. He held it up and asked, "Mommy, what is this?" in a rather excited tone. "Well, Aidan, that's a paperclip." He held it up toward the sun and proclaimed, "This is going to be our new paperclip!"
All the way home we talked about what paperclips are, what they are used for, and who uses them. Aidan was able to consider that someone must have had it and dropped it without knowing. Then he talked about whether they'd need it and how now it's his brand new paperclip. And then he promptly forgot about it.
