D.C.

Our trip from WV to DC was a little bumpy at first but was not as bad as the trip a few days before. As we left WV Aidan was sleeping but we followed an incorrect sign and ended up about 10 miles out of the way before turning around. When we slowed down to exit and go the other direction, Aidan woke up because his head was bouncing around. Unfortunately, he never got back to sleep.

Initially there was alot of screaming and arguing on his part. He didn't want to be in the seat. He wanted to nurse. He was, in general, unhappy. There was some fighting that resulted in my moving from the back seat to the front seat a couple of times. When he'd finally profess that he was sorry and ask me to come back, I'd return. We went through that twice before he got the point. Finally we stopped to stretch our legs and he got a sucker that lasted him almost to D.C. Of course, when we finally got here he was very excited about being here. He loves the hustle and bustle of the big city. I'm always amazed by how responsive he is to all the excitement!

Although Aidan had his heart set on swimming when we got in, Mommy and Daddy had other plans. We hit the streets to see local sites. We walked down to the National Mall, saw several Smithsonian museums, the Washington Monument, and tried to find the White House. Aidan fell asleep in his stroller listening to us discuss old buildings.

On Wednesday we hit the Natural History Museum. Very cool. Aidan enjoyed the dinosaurs and the insects most of all. He touched a grasshopper, a worm, and a hissing cockroach from Madagascar. Mommy and Daddy most enjoyed the Hope Diamond (although this didn't sound that exciting to me when I saw it in the book). There are tons of other exhibits that I'd love to see, but not with a 2 year old. Maybe next August when we're here without Aidan I'll get to go back.

At least 30 minutes each day Aidan insists on going swimming. He loves to swim around with his arm floats on. He's quite good at getting around effectively. Whenever we are between activities and we ask him what he wants to do next he says, "Go swimming!" Never fails. He's a water baby!

Aidan is really smart. There's nothing like a nice little swim to calm one down between the hustle bustle of the city.
