Last night we ate at Chick fil A, one of our favorite fast food joints. After eating Aidan played on the indoor play equipment. There were ten very rambunctious big kids running around playing some form of tag. They were pretty cognizant of the fact that Aidan was in their midst but it made me a little nervous. Watching the big kids run, scream, and climb caused Aidan to get increasingly excited. He stood there, watching all of the commotion with both hands extended upward, moving his hands around violently as if he were putting a hex on someone. He just seemed to be so worked up that he had to get the energy out somehow. He also would do this little shuffle with his feet whenever his internal energy would heighten. And, of course, his face was lit up with the biggest smile ever. He cannot wait until he's big enough to do all of the things those kids were doing!
He did pretty well with bedtime last night. Some nights I think he's just growing into the sleeping thing. Of course, each time I start to think that it's only a couple of days until we have a really difficult night. We all seem to be adjusting incredibly well to the kitchen remodel, which surprises both Jason and me. Everyone told us it would be so terrible and even with all the extra expenses that we've run into, no one is freaking out. Aidan actually thinks it's sort of fun. He found a bag of the old drawer pulls and emptied those out on the floor. Then he pretended that they were tools, crawled under the sink, and "fixed" the plumbing. Could it be that he might be more handy than his daddy? Not to say that Jason couldn't talk his way out of a hostage situation or get you checked into a great mental hospital if need be, but he sure isn't a handyman. Luckily for Aidan, Papaw Steve offers the mechanical genes and Great-papaw Shelby (his namesake Samuel) was a carpenter.
Tonight is his daycare graduation, he is moving into the 2-year old class next week. This should be a tough transition for him since he loves one of his current teachers and cries whenever she's not there. I'm sure they have already gotten him acquainted with the new teachers but he has such a difficult time with these sorts of transitions. We are really looking forward to the graduation ceremony this evening, we've been told that the kids have some sort of skit. Ought to be interesting!
As I look back over what I've written here, it occurs to me that it's all about how he's getting to be a big boy. He aspires to be like the big kids at the indoor playground, he's growing into good sleep, he's showing off his handyman tendencies, and he's graduating to the next class at school. I'm astounded at how quickly he's becoming a little boy. Before I know it he'll be a man with a family of his own. I'd better hurry up and teach him all the things he needs to know!
