Our Memorial Day Weekend

Aidan is so much fun to be with these days. Last night we were watching Teletubbies before bed. Mommy and Daddy were worn out from a full day of playing! On the show the tubbies were learning how to skip. Aidan took off across the room and I realized that he was trying to skip, so I showed him how. Then Daddy joined in and we were all holding hands and skipping across the livingroom. All day today Aidan tried to skip. It looks more like a horse trot but to him he's skipping. It's so funny to see him carefully observing our skips to make sure he has it down before trying it himself. This imitation stage, while adorable, sure is scary. We need to be very careful about what we do. Jason has already proposed a couple of funny things we could teach him, some of which I vetoed!

After last night's skipping lesson, Aidan picked up his stool, took me by the hand, and led me into the laundry room. He wanted to do laundry! He loves to help and I guess he'd decided it was time to wash some clothes. So we did. I told Jason that now is the time to teach him that chores are part of life and to allow him to help us, no matter how much longer it takes to get the job done. It's good practice for all of us to get into the habit of doing our chores.

Jason told me a story about Aidan's sixth sense that was interesting. Jason got out the flea medicine for the cat, the kind that you put on the nape of the neck. Aidan only saw Jason with the tube of medicine, which is a clear tube with no writing or pictures on it. Jason was walking around looking for the cat, when he entered the back porch area where Aidan was. Aidan looked at the tube, looked at his daddy, then said and signed "cat" and then put his hand behind his head to point at the nape of his own neck, all the while saying "cat" over and over. Jason's response was, "Aidan, you are really freaking me out!" I called Grandpa Lenny and we all decided it must have been some form of mind reading because Aidan has never seen Jason administer the flea treatment to the cat. Grandpa Lenny told us a story of how Uncle Todd read his mother's mind once when she was ill by bringing her a cup of coffee when she was dying for one. Jason says that he remembers when that happened and how strange the sequence of events were. Aidan must be very in synch with his daddy!

Unfortunately, Aidan has been coughing non-stop for several days. Last night was better with medicine, but the previous night we only got about an hour of sleep. We had to cancel of Cincy Zoo trip! I spent several hours yesterday cleaning out the saw dust from the carpenter (who is now finished), so I'm hoping that may have been a factor and it may subside. He saw the doctor on Saturday, who said it's not an illness and allergies are the most likely candidate. And, by the way, when he saw the doctor there was no fluid in his ears and the ear drums were operating normally. So for now the ear issue has cleared itself up, which was exactly what the research suggested was likely to happen. We will, however, have him checked frequently.
